F.A.Q. -
Q: Why are you doing this?

A: The Greatest Generations Foundation believes it is high time to honor our military Veterans, starting with the World War II Veterans, who have generally been overlooked. When the war ended, they resumed their lives, and no one ever stopped to say thank you for the peace and prosperity they had helped bring about.

Q: Are the trips truly all-expenses paid?

A: Yes!!! The Greatest Generations Foundation covers airfare to and from the States, all in-country lodging, transportation, ceremonies, and all meals. It is suggested that participants bring some spending money, or an ATM card to access local currency to cover additional expenses such as souvenirs, snacks and occasional beverages. The Greatest Generations Foundation will also provide a group mobile phone to make calls home.

Q: May my spouse or other family member join me?

A: The Greatest Generations Foundation has resources to fund the Veterans. However, we sometimes request volunteers to assist us during the trips and these requests may provide openings for a family member. Separate, parallel trips may be arranged for family members and friends to "shadow" the Veterans, however we can't guarantee access to all events during our travels. If you wish to accompany your Veteran, we will quote you the cost of such an arrangement.

Q: How are the participants chosen for the trips?

A: We receive numerous applications daily and wish we could accommodate each and every one. But since resources and space are limited we make a selection by creating a group of veterans who will represent a variety of backgrounds, including military service, military experiences, residency, and health. Participants are not chosen based upon number of medals, rank, or time in combat, etc.

Q: Do I have to be in perfect health to participate?

A: No. However, we ask that any veteran wishing to submit an application first consult with a physician and obtain approval for travel abroad. The trips require some walking and a fair amount of stamina. The days are long in order to squeeze in as many experiences as possible. We plan R & R, even if it means a nap on the bus! Rest assured, however, that our Veterans are well taken care of by The Greatest Generations Foundation escort staff, including a medical professional.

Q: Do I need a passport to travel?

A: Yes. Veterans need a current passport, with at least 6 months until the expiration date. Except for trips to Hawaii, all trips are overseas to countries requiring travelers to carry a valid passport. In order to receive clearance from The Greatest Generations Foundation to travel, Veterans must also present a physician signed "travel clearance" (form may obtained from T.G.G.F), and a list of emergency contacts.

Q: I don't speak any other language, Will that be a problem?

A: No, several interpreters will accompany us on every trip. If you do speak another language, please let us know on the application form.

Q: I want to make a donation to T.G.G.F. How will my money be used?

A: As a non-profit, we endeavor to keep administrative costs as low as possible in order to maximize funds available for our veteran’s trip. At the moment, approximately 3% of our donations are used for administrative and overhead costs. That percentage will change, of course, depending on the total amount of donations received for any given time period -- administrative costs are fairly predictable, while donation levels are not.
