Our Proud History -
Since
inception, The Greatest Generations Foundation IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit
organization has directly touched more than 11,000 veterans throughout the
world, through a multitude of battlefield programs, organized educational programs
to national destinations, and other educational activities.
Founded in 2004, The Greatest Generations Foundation is the only agency devoted
to helping veterans return back to their battlefields of come to closure on their
war experiences and at the same time, educating youth about key war events and
their relevance to the overall historical context. The idea for T.G.G.F was born
after founder Timothy Davis (an Australian native) made the journey to Normandy
to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of D-Day in June of 2004. As part of the
crowd of 70,000 attendees, Timothy realized that less than 450 World War II Veterans
made the journey back to France for this event. It was during this event that
both the United States and United Kingdom governments announced that this would
be the last major government funded commemoration event in Normandy. Hearing
this made Timothy wonder about all the Veterans who would have attended the event
had they been given the opportunity. During the week-long event, Timothy met
and spoke personally with many of the attending Veterans, and it was unanimous
that the word “closure” was a major driving force for the veterans
returning to Normandy.
After the event, Timothy conducted a study through local veterans groups and
organizations and determined that living veterans would greatly benefit from
the opportunity to find closure through a return trip to a foreign battlefield,
In addition, youth would gain an exceptional educational understanding by participating
in a complete living perspective of history, one-on-one with a veteran. Here,
youth would have the opportunity to experience the historical aspects of war
through the eyes of a veteran – first hand and on site at the battlefield.
